What runners say
I didn't think I'd be so emotional crossing under the Arc de Triomf. After 42 km through Barcelona's streets, you can't really tell where you end and the city begins."
Why it's special
A spectacular marathon in one of Europe's most attractive cities, often overlooked. In March, the weather is almost perfect for running.
What's around
Starting from Passeig de Gràcia and finishing beneath the Arc de Triomf, the Zurich Marató Barcelona traces a route through the city's most vibrant neighbourhoods — past the Sagrada Família, along the Mediterranean coast and through streets that feel built for running. With just 134 metres of total elevation gain and long, open straights, it's one of the fastest urban courses in Europe. But the atmosphere sets it apart: over 200,000 spectators, 47 entertainment points, and a city that stops being a backdrop and becomes the main character. First held in 1978 and now holding a World Athletics Silver Label, it sells out at 32,000 bibs months before the start.
