The Mitja Marató Costa Barcelona Maresme is in its 17th edition and runs along the Alt Maresme coast, the stretch of shoreline north of Barcelona that passes through Malgrat de Mar, Pineda de Mar, Santa Susanna and Calella. The course is almost entirely flat — designed specifically to favour personal bests — and runs just metres from the sea for its entire length. Up to 2,000 participants, open to everyone over 16. It is one of the most established half marathons on the Catalan calendar, with a community of runners who return every year for the quality of the course and the organisation. Outside Catalonia it is little known. And yet for those who want to run fast on a quick course with the Mediterranean beside them, this race is hard to beat.
