What runners say

Running alongside a firefighter in full uniform who won't give up an inch makes you forget about pace — and reminds you why we're all here.

Why it's special

Fifteen thousand runners and Barcelona's firefighters in full service uniform. A 10K born from a union protest that became the city's most moving collective ritual.

What's around

Founded in 1999 as a protest by Barcelona's firefighters against the city council — which was ignoring their labour demands — the Cursa de Bombers turned a union grievance into one of the city's most beloved sporting events. The defining feature is unmistakable: every year, dozens of firefighters run the full 10K in their working uniform, helmet and all, side by side with regular runners. It's not theatre — it's a symbol that has stayed alive for over 25 editions. The route cuts through the heart of Barcelona — Parc de la Ciutadella, Passeig de Colom, Avinguda del Paral·lel, Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes — with an almost flat profile that makes it perfect for first-timers and personal-best chasers alike. Part of the proceeds goes to social causes linked to the fire brigade: the 26th edition raised over €65,000.
