What runners say
Arriving at the Plaza del Obradoiro at a run, with the cathedral ahead and pilgrims cheering you on, is one of those moments when you understand why you run. You're not just crossing a finish line — you're arriving somewhere.
Why it's special
Run — or walk — the last 50 km of the Camino de Santiago in under 24 hours, from Melide to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. The world's most famous pilgrimage route, all in one go.
What's around
Anyone who thought the Camino de Santiago could only be walked was wrong. On 17 October, the sixth edition of the Ecocamino de Santiago takes place: 50 km along the final stretch of the French Way, from Melide to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, to be completed in under 24 hours. The event is open to both runners and walkers — it's not a timed race in the traditional sense, but a physical challenge with the spirit of a pilgrim. Organised by EcoDeporte, it combines sport, sustainability and the soul of the camino in a unique format. Outside Spain it's practically unknown. And yet running one of the most historically and spiritually charged routes in the world, arriving at the Plaza del Obradoiro with tired legs and a full heart, is something no traditional marathon can give you.
