What runners say
Running along a white gravel road surrounded by Chianti vineyards, knowing that at lunchtime a table with wine and pasta is waiting for you, is one of those things that makes you understand why Italian running is different from everything else.
Why it's special
Running through trails and white gravel roads in the heart of Chianti Classico, with two pasta parties included — one on Saturday evening and one on Sunday at lunch. Come and live a dream.
What's around
The 19th EcoMarathon of Chianti Classico winds through Castelnuovo Berardenga and the Sienese hills, along trails and white gravel roads surrounded by vineyards that produce one of the world's most famous wines. It's the postcard landscape of Tuscany — but experienced from the inside, on foot, without tour buses. Four competitive distances: marathon 42 km, half 21 km, 15 km through woods and vines, and a 3×1500 m relay. Plus non-competitive events for those who want to take part without a stopwatch. The most unique aspect is its solidarity spirit: the medals are commissioned from the Sahrawi people, with part of the proceeds going to food, clothing and medicine for refugee camps. And then there are the two pasta parties — Saturday evening and Sunday lunch — because in Tuscany you don't run without eating well.
