What runners say

Running at night through the streets of Thessaloniki, with three thousand years of history all around and the best food in Greece waiting at the finish, is something you don't expect from a half marathon. Thessaloniki always surprises you.

Why it's special

The 14th edition of the Thessaloniki Night Half Marathon: running at night through the streets of Greece's second city, supported by the Greek Ministry of Sport and recognised by World Athletics.

What's around

The Thessaloniki Night Half Marathon is in its 14th edition and takes place on 17 October, at night, through the streets of Thessaloniki — Greece's second city, capital of Central Macedonia, with a historic centre layered with three thousand years of history across Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman rule. The course starts and finishes at the Ampelokipoi Municipal Stadium and winds through the city's main streets. Three distances: 5 km, 10 km and half marathon, plus a Family Mile. The race is organised under the patronage of the Greek Ministry of the Interior, the Region of Central Macedonia, the Ministry of Sport and the National UNESCO Commission — significant institutional recognition for a race that outside Greece is practically unknown. Thessaloniki in October is a perfect city: mild climate, vibrant nightlife, food that ranks among the best in all of Greece. Those who know it say it's the most alive city in the country — and running it at night is a unique way to find out.
