What runners say
When you enter Venice after 30 km of mainland and see the Grand Canal in front of you, with the bridge built just for you to cross, you understand you're not running an ordinary marathon. You're crossing something that can never be repeated.
Why it's special
One of the world's most iconic marathons: starting from the Riviera del Brenta, finishing in Venice crossing 14 bridges, St. Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace. FIDAL Gold Label, World Athletics certified and Abbott World Marathon Majors ranking.
What's around
The Venicemarathon is not an unknown race — it is one of the most famous marathons in the world. It is part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Ranking, recognised by World Athletics and FIDAL Gold Label certified. And yet actually running it remains an experience that very few European runners have truly had. The course is unique: starting from Villa Pisani on the Riviera del Brenta, you run almost 30 km through the Veneto mainland — 18th-century villas, the Brenta river, the towns of Dolo, Mira, Oriago — before entering Venice. The finish crosses 14 bridges, the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario, the Accademia of Fine Arts, the Royal Gardens, St. Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace. For the occasion, a 170-metre metal footbridge is installed across the Grand Canal, built specifically for the race and dismantled the night after. Three distances sharing the same spectacular finish: marathon, half and 10 km. All three end in Venice, all three run the final stretch together.
