Corralejo Marathon

Fuerteventura doesn't look like anywhere else in Europe. Those who arrive for the first time often stop and look around with a strange feeling: it doesn't feel like an Atlantic island — it feels like another planet. The landscape is dry, mineral, almost lunar — or more precisely, Martian. White sand dunes tens of metres high flowing down to the sea, extinct volcanoes, endless lava plains, and that sharp December light that makes everything even more unreal.

Corralejo is the heart of all this. And the Maratón de Corralejo is one of the few races in the world where you run literally through the dunes — along a road that cuts them in half, with sand on both sides and the Atlantic wind in your face. It's one of those images you never forget. This is not just a race: it's an experience that belongs to a place unlike anywhere else on Earth.

RunAway takes a small group here for four days, Thursday to Sunday. The base will be a finca — a traditional Canarian rural house, far from the resorts and tourists — from which to explore the real island. One of the days is dedicated to Cofete: a beach reachable only via a dirt track through the desert, sheltered by a mountain range, virtually inaccessible and therefore untouched. Seventeen kilometres of wild sand with no sunbeds, no bars, nothing. Just open ocean, Atlantic waves and silence. Nothing like it exists anywhere in Europe.

The days before the race won't just be waiting: yoga sessions for runners, a masterclass on sports nutrition, talks with experts and moments of connection. Saturday evening: group dinner, carbs guaranteed. Sunday morning: race day.
